Queen of the Sea Necklace

Been ages since my last post and I had been quite busy the past weeks (months!). Although I was also busy making projects, tried to squeeze in the time as much as I can.

Made this necklace which is called Queen of the Sea. It's a pattern by Jenny Van.

I remember the first necklace I attempted to make was also a design by Jenny Van. I like her designs.

This was quite tricky for me. When I finished it the arcs twisted and wouldn't lay flat.

I ended up reinforcing the joints and pulling them tighter. It has to be tight and firm or else it would flop and twist. That seemed to do the trick.

Herringbone Highway

This is a pattern from the December 2011 Issue of Bead and Button magazine. It's called Herringbone Highway designed by Aryd'ell Hotelling.

In my variation I made only one "lane" instead of the two called for in the pattern. I also used materials I had available.

I'm using 5mm faceted Carnelian round beads with 5mm freshwater pearls for the center of the "highway".

I don't have size 6 seed beads so I used size 8s but strung a 15/o before and after it to fill up the gap.

I used an 8mm round red agate for the toggle.

Pearl Orbit part 2

Continued the bracelet parts today, finished the six rings and now I just finished adding the pearl and embellishing one of the rings.

Keeping the right tension was quite tricky. I guess one reason is because I'm using 13/o Charlottes instead of the specified 15/o.

The pearl I'm using is a bit less than 8mm in diameter. These are freshwater pearls so the sizes vary a bit and aren't exact.
